Instructions & usageLook closely at a fox, rabbit, hedgehog and owl in their woodland home. Colour the scene, then point to the animal on a branch and the hollow log on the ground. Invite children to describe one place an animal could shelter and explain their choice. Pair this sheet with the existing woodland animals page for a quiet colouring activity followed by a short observation conversation.

What you’ll need

Paper, printer and colouring pencils

Make the most of it

First name the four animals together. Colour the scene, then ask: Which animal is on the branch? Where could an animal shelter? Let the child explain their idea. Mushrooms in the picture are for colouring, not identifying edible plants. Print one test sheet before a group activity.

Printing tips

Check the file’s paper size and print one test page. Choose “fit” if edges are clipped.
